What is PDMS?

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the older technical term for silicone. The chemical formula for PDMS is CH3[Si(CH3)2O]nSi(CH3)3.

PDMS can also be referred to as dimethylpolysiloxane or dimethicone. PDMS is the most widely used silicone-based organic polymer. PDMS is optically clear, and non-toxic, and non-flammable. It is one of several types of silicone oil. Its applications range from contact lenses and medical devices to elastomers.

Why use PDMS?

Most Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) use a platinum catalyst for curing, which allows processing at high temperatures and reduced curing time.
